2) Scope
This policy covers the EcoCue mobile app and any companion sites/services we operate (together, the “Services”). It does not cover third-party websites or services we link to.
3) What we collect
We collect the minimum data needed to run the app and improve it. Some data stays only on your device unless you choose to sync or share.
- Data you provide
- Account details (if you sign up): name/alias, email, password (hashed).
- Footprint inputs: electricity (kWh), fuel/transport, flights, food pattern, notes, goals, and preferences.
- Feedback/support messages.
- Data collected automatically
- App diagnostics/usage (optional): crash logs, performance events, feature usage counts.
- Device basics: app version, OS version, language, time zone.
- Approximate location (only if you enable features like country-specific factors). We do not collect precise GPS by default.
- Payments (if applicable)
- For premium features, purchases are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive transaction confirmations but no full payment card data.
- Cookies/local storage
- In the app we use local storage to save your settings. On our website we may use cookies for basic analytics and session management.
4) Why we collect it (purposes)
- Core functionality: calculate and display your estimated emissions (CO₂e), save history, and show tips/action cards.
- Sync/backup (optional): if you enable cloud sync, we store your inputs securely so you can access them across devices.
- Support & safety: respond to requests, fix bugs, detect abuse or service misuse.
- Improvement & stats: aggregate/anonymous analytics to understand which features help most and to improve emission factors and UX.
- Legal/compliance: meet our legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
